Theory's done; this is the practical post. The goal: move funds from a centralized exchange to Hyperliquid with nothing left to luck. Read it whole once before doing anything — the order of steps is the safety.
Step 1 — Get a wallet (your own safe)
Install a self-custody wallet. For meaningful amounts, prefer a hardware wallet (a physical device — the key never touches the internet); for getting started, a reputable browser/phone wallet works. Download only from the official site, typed by hand — search-engine ads above the real result are a classic trap.
During setup you'll receive a seed phrase: a list of words that can recreate your wallet anywhere. Write it on paper. Never type it into any website, never photograph it, never store it in email or cloud notes. Anyone who has those words has your money; any site that asks for them is a scam, with no exceptions, ever.
Step 2 — Position USDC on the exchange
Hyperliquid deposits are in USDC, a dollar-pegged token. On your CEX, convert what you're moving into USDC. While there, also withdraw-whitelist your new wallet address if your exchange supports it — one more lock on the door.
Step 3 — The withdrawal, and the network question
Withdraw USDC from the CEX to your wallet address. The withdrawal form will ask which network to use — this is the step where money dies when people rush. Hyperliquid's standard deposit route accepts USDC via the Arbitrum network, so the simple, safe play is: withdraw USDC on Arbitrum. If the networks on each end don't match, funds can be lost outright.
And here is the most important sentence in this guide: send a small test first. Move $20, watch it arrive in your wallet, then deposit that $20 into Hyperliquid and see it credited. Only after the full round trip works do you send the real amount. The test costs you a few cents in fees; skipping it has cost other people everything they moved.
Step 4 — Connect and deposit
Go to app.hyperliquid.xyz — typed by hand or from your own bookmark, never from a link in an email, DM, or ad. Connect your wallet, hit Deposit, and approve the transaction. Your USDC moves into your Hyperliquid trading account; from here, everything trades instantly with no per-trade gas.
Step 5 — Before you touch anything else
Bookmark the app. Note your lock-up terms before any vault deposit. And keep the seed phrase paper somewhere a house guest can't browse. The boring steps are the security — the next and final post of this series is entirely about the ways people lose funds on DEXs, and you'll notice every disaster starts with skipping something boring.
One honest caveat: interfaces change. The screens may differ by the time you read this; the principles — official URL, matching networks, test transfer first, seed phrase on paper — do not.
